Old Mud Creek Farm - Hudson Carbon

About Old Mud Creek Farm

The Sirmone & Fingar Farm is one large field and a few small fields of terrific soil where we’ve grown crops very successfully for the past six years. Just this year, we seeded the farm down to orchard grass, alfalfa and other perennials to give it a four year rest to rebuild carbon stocks in the soil and work weed seeds out as we prepare for our next round of crops in a few years.

Apples no longer grow here Instead, the large group of agricultural fields grow perennial and annual crops.

The fields are located in a beautiful setting with the Catskills in the background. There is a large, mostly flat field surrounded by forest surrounded by some older homes. The field reminds you of a timeless meadow from a bygone era.

Farming practices

Minimum tillage is a soil conservation system like strip-till with the goal of minimum soil manipulation necessary for a successful crop production. It is a tillage method that does not turn the soil over, in contrast to intensive tillage, which changes the soil structure using ploughs.
